Nine Long Months - September
September 13, 1999: Ladies and Gentlemen: It's a boy. Today we went for our 16th week checkup and ultrasound. It is amazing how much bigger he has gotten since we last saw him just a few weeks ago. He's an active little guy too. As the doctor was trying to get good measurements of various major bones, the brain, the spine, and so forth, he was twitching and dancing around. While she was watching the heart he just up and flipped himself right over! I'll tell you, it's one thing to know you are going to be a father, but it is quite another when you actually see your baby moving on a screen. And hearing his heart beat. And feeling him kick. That's right! Yesterday Ann felt, for the third time in as many days, a feeling that was something like an incredibly brief cramp which seemed to travel around from various places in the uterus. I put my hand on her yesterday and felt a very gentle bump. The doctor confirmed today that we are starting to feel him! I asked the doctor if it was too soon to tell the sex and she said she'd give it a shot. They say that when it is a girl, it is very hard to tell because what you are looking for is incredibly small and nearly invisible. But with our baby... well, let's just say his father is damn proud of him. He takes after his father. :) His maternal grandparents went from being happy for us to being thrilled. Now grandpa is talking about baseball gloves and golf clubs and grandma is just talking about calling all the relatives. All I know is that I am going to be a daddy. And that he's healthy and, if dancing is any clue, happy.
